JTCC's mission is to provide academic and tennis instruction to hardworking and motivated young children from all demographic backgrounds. Our goal is to pave the way for players to earn scholarships to college.
To make the game more accessible and enjoyable to children of all abilities, training begins with junior racquets and softer balls. Once they have developed the basic skills, they progress to full size courts and equipment. At JTCC, we consider this “pathway” to be our greatest success.
This journey often starts on Community Outreach sites throughout the area’s underserved neighborhoods. Our coaches identify the most motivated young players and extend an invitation to join classes in College Park and continue their journey to eventually earn a college scholarship. Robin Montgomery and Mikeal Carpenter are two success stories who are a testament to our program.
Robin, at the age of six, stood out as a highly motivated and focused young player at one of our Community Outreach sites. She was invited to JTCC at age seven and has progressed very rapidly. Robin is now in our top level “Champions” program and is ranked #2 in the Mid-Atlantic and #22 in the Nation in the Girls 12s.
Mikeal impressed our coaches as a hardworking and talented young player at one of our sites at the age of nine. Mikeal was invited to join JTCC and has made great strides in his training. He is in our top level “Champions” program and was ranked #5 in the Mid-Atlantic Boys 12s.
We are proud to provide children like Robin and Mikeal with the opportunity to become tennis players and earn college scholarships. But as you might guess, it is an expensive proposition to train a young player for as many as ten years through increasing levels of intensity and participation. In fact, a child who enters our pathway at age eight and continues to work hard will receive $150,000 in financial aid from JTCC over the following ten years.
We believe this is an investment well worth making when you consider the value of a college tennis scholarship. Tuition, room, board, books, coaching, and travel can total up to $350,000 over four years. In addition, these players receive valuable life lessons of self-reliance, confidence, and fitness through their training. Youngsters are inspired by older players in the program and JTCC alumni as they aspire to earn their own college scholarships (see attachment A). The pathway works, as young players have earned over five million dollars worth of college tennis scholarships in the past five years (see attachment B).
Our pathway creates a wonderful opportunity for these young players and an enormous financial obligation for us. That is why we need your help. Your year-end contribution will help us with the costs of grassroots instruction and financial aid for children who have been vetted to verify actual financial need.
As you are planning your end of the year giving, we would appreciate your consideration. You may use the form to your right for your online donations. Thank you for your consideration.
Best regards,
Raymond S. Benton
